ABOUT

Coin Qian is a painter based between Whanganui, New Zealand and Shanghai, China. Her practice centres on oil painting, moving between close observation and a looser handling of light, reflection and layered space.

Trained in art and design in Shanghai, Qian worked across illustration and design, and later established her own creative brand, before returning her focus to painting.

Her recent paintings often begin with ordinary or overlooked objects, using reflection, light and layered space to explore changing ideas of value, memory and time.
